Awards
Since a decline in logging in the 1990s Ucluelet has been working to broaden its economy. The community recognized that first it should put the proper plans in place to guide and control the expected growth.
This was achieved by implementing a new overall area plan, the Official Community Plan, which has guided subsequent rezoning and development applications. This culminated in 2005 with the Weyerhaeuser Comprehensive Development Plan and related Master Development Agreement for the OCEANWEST lands.
These efforts have resulted in many awards:
- The District of Ucluelet has won the 2007 Energy Aware Award in the Community Planning and Development category as a result of Ucluelet’s exemplary commitment, leadership and vision in using land-use policy to drive energy and climate progress.
